Happy Love Day❣️
Today in just the United States alone there will be an estimated 18.2 billion dollars spent just on Valentine’s gifts! Valentines Day has always been one of my favorites because it’s the one holiday that solely revolves around showing our friends and loved ones how much we care- usually in the form of gifts and flowers! Growing up I never knew the real history and reasoning behind why we celebrate Valentine’s Day or why we give gifts to do so. This year I finally decided to look it up and wanted to share with all of you now!
“The history of Valentine’s Day originated during the third century in Rome. During this time, Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers, so he outlawed marriage for young men. A young priest named Valentine was furious with this injustice and defied Claudius by continuing to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. Claudius eventually discovered Valentine’s actions and sentenced him to death (not quite the fate of those who fail to buy their significant others flowers on Valentine’s Day, but clearly a lesson to be learned from history!).
During his time in jail, Valentine fell in love with his jailer’s daughter, who visited him in prison. Before he was put to death, Valentine sent a letter to the girl and signed it, “From Your Valentine” — an expression we still use today. Valentine was executed on February 14, 270 AD. Later, around 496 AD, Pope Gelasius declared Feb. 14 a day to honor Valentine, who by that time had become a saint.“
Today, whether you realize it or not, you’re honoring St. Valentine whenever you send a card, chocolates, or my favorite, flowers! I don’t know about you, but I’m really grateful that all those years ago he knew how much love enriched our lives and did everything he could to help it persevere! Today we honor St. Valentine by showing those around us how much we love them!❤️
Let love live on💕
*These pictures are from a gorgeous photo shoot I did with Heather Buckley Photography last month! These two (and their sweet puppy, too!) were so fun to work with! It was
so obvious how much they love and care about eachother, and I’m so glad I was able to be a part of this stunning Valentine’s styled shoot💌
